Frequency Generator
OverviewThis is a simple routine for the Psion Series 3a (and presumably 3c as well) which produces notes asked for by the user. The user can ask for notes by frequency in Hertz or by name (F# etc).
Installation
Copy freqgen.opo to any handy location, and run it by double tapping it.
Use
The program has two functions - to produce notes by name, and to produce notes by frequency. Both options are presented on the same dialog when you run the program, so you do not need to fill in every field every time you run the program.
By frequency
If you know the frequency of the note you want to produce, you can move the cursor to the bottom of the dialog and type the frequency in. If you wish you can adjust the length of note produced as well. Press enter and your note will be produced.
By name
If you know the name of the note you want to produce, you can type it in in the top line of the dialog. As there is no easy "flat" character, all the black notes have been entered as sharps. But because of the way dCHOICE works, the quickest way to enter say F# is to type "ff".
Next you need to set the octave. Octave number 1 is for A above middle C to the G# above that. Lower numbers give lower octaves, higher numbers give higher octaves.
The program uses concert pitch as its default, where A=440Hz. Unless you have a good reason, it's best to leave this alone. Performers of baroque music for example might want to tune to A430 or A415. The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra uses A446. But unless it matters to you, leave it at A440 or you may get nonsense results.
Both options
Finally, you can adjust the length of the note to what you need. Do not adjust the frequency setting at the bottom of the dialog as this will override all the other settings and give the absolute frequency.
Press enter and the note will be generated. The frequency finally produced will be displayed in the bottom of the dialog.
